Affordable rechargeable solar lamp.
Nigeria is particularly burdened by electronic waste, with over 1.1 million tonnes of E-waste every year stemming from both local and imported electronics. Also tons of plastic waste blocks drainage causing flooding and other environmental risk.
Over 30 million school children in Nigeria are faced with lack of access to affordable study/reading lamp, they rely on disposable battery and kerosene lamps to study after school hours.
According to World bank, Over 80 million Nigerians lack access to grid electricity.
According to Techpoint Africa, Nigeria generated about $151 million worth of electronic waste in 2019 known to cause DNA damage, Cancer etc if poorly disposed.
Most solar lamps cost far too much for the communities that needs them most. What makes 1-Energy different is how we build them: we turn locally discarded plastic bottles and scrap electronics into durable, rechargeable lights for just $1 and FREE if the community women and youths can trade in electronic and plastic waste for the value of our 1-Energy solar lamp(s) hereby creating job opportunities for them. So Instead of creating more waste or relying on expensive supply chains, we solve two problems at once, cleaning up trash while giving off-grid families and studying kids a safe, ultra-affordable way to light up their homes.
